IT WAS UNTIL SOMEBODY DIED THAT I REALIZED IT WAS NOT FUN AND GAMES – SLAPDEE REFLECTS ON BEEF WITH MACKY 2

Rapper Slapdee turned 38 years old on 27th April, 2025 – and fellow rapper Macky 2 sent his birthday wishes by tagging video on his socials which described as saying his peace as the two rap gurus talked about their early uprising career beef, what influenced it and advise to upcoming artists.

In the video, which started with Slapdee giving Macky 2 a 120,000 Kwacha, Macky 2 reminisced on how their relationship season has changed to harmony from fury. The rapper said, “It’s always interesting to see SLAP. It reminds me of the good old days [plays diss track throwback]. Me and him have come so far, you know. It’s always crazy that we even get to do business nowadays and just act, mulanda shani? Cordial.”

In the video which the two rappers seemed like they are finally putting the last nail on their rap beef casket, Slapdee also took a stroll down memory lane as he said, “I’ve been involved in a lot of industry drama I think, which gives me the right to talk about this, including Macky 2 himself.”

“Fame is a DRUG,” said Slapdee as he talked to Macky 2, who was responding in affirmation. The rappers talked about how artists should trade cautiously when they just reach their breakthrough period, highlighting that everyone(fans) will praise them regardless of the nature of their actions thus they should learn to distinguish entertainment from real support.

Slapdee recounted how he was drunk in fame, leading to his beef with Macky 2 and his regrets about the beef. The rapper said, “Mine and Macky 2’s wasn’t really staged. It was real in the sense that we were influenced by the people around us to go head to head. It was until somebody died that I realized it wasn’t fun and games. It was a serious, serious situation.”

Macky 2 joined in as he blamed lack of orientation to fame for his participation in the beef with Slapdee citing social users’ incitement in writing “I am Zambian Hip Hop Slapdee diss song” hence stressing that veteran artists should guide upcoming artist in order for then to avoid making the errors they made.

Slapdee agreed with most of Macky 2’s sentiments but he felt too much baby sitting was only good to a certain extent as the upcoming artists needed to experience certain things to value the knowledge they would receive from a lecture citing that most times those in breakthrough phase rarely listen because they are drunk in fame.

Mulaza Kaira, 40, and Slapdee, 38, ended their conversation, hoping that young artists learn from their experience, respect the ‘OGs’, and remain humble. The two artists have been monumental in the Zambian music industry. Even after over 20 years of making music, the two remain influential and still setting trends.

Macky 2 who captioned his video post with a Proverbs 27:17 bible verse emphasize on collaborations and surrounding oneself with positive influences as they foster personal growth before ending with a light moment by giving Slapdee 30 days to drop a song or he would record a diss song signifying off the roof bromance levels.
