CHANDA NA KAY SAY THEY DO NOT SMOKE OR DRINK ALCOHOL

While featuring on Kenny T 1 ON 1 podcast’s episode 22, the host Kenny T sort to find out if top Kopala duo Chanda na Kay smoke or drink alcohol. “So imwe guys, mulanwa, mulapepa?” Kenny T asked the duo.

“Pure sikama normal ifwe,” Chanda na Kay described themselves further, stating that they neither take alcohol nor smoke.

When Kenny T asked Kay if he does not smoke or drink like Chanda said, he responded, “Awe, awe, awe, awe!” Kay’s repeated “Awe” response caused the three to burst into laughter as Chanda questioned his duo mate’s denial, saying the way he was refusing as if someone wanted to take him to jail.

Rapper Kay went ahead to reveal the reasons why he does not smoke. He told Kenny T that he comes from an extended family, and in that family, a lot of people are alcoholics.

The rapper continued to tell a story about how one of his male relatives woke him up at 6am and asked him, “Mwaiche, iwe taunwa! Bushe ameno ninkwata nangu shikwete?” Kay would notice that his front teeth were missing from apparently a fight he had at a drinking spree.

The rapper would contemplate, questioning why he would start drinking alcohol after seeing what was happening with everyone around him who was abusing alcohol.

Kay would add, saying that he was constantly used as an example to his peers on why they should stop drinking alcohol.

His efforts to continue impressing his guardians helped him not to start taking alcohol. “Nifwebo ba tolo, naukolwa wapona pa musebo kwisala umusebo kaili, umusebo onse wa bloka,” further added Kay.

Kenny T turned to Chanda, who also said he doesn’t drink like he earlier mentioned but admitted to doing so in the past. The rapper said his use of the substances came with a spirit to engage in fights. “Bale ponoka! Ni nkolwa noku kolwa? Bale ponoka! Nga apa naisa bweshamo fwe,” said Chanda.

The rapper revealed that he decided to stop using substances after realizing that his fights would land him in jail because his family’s economic status was so poor that had he gotten arrested and there was a requirement to pay a 5,000 Kwacha they would not be able to bail him out.

The rapper would then channel his energy to more productive things such as pursuing his music career. He further revealed a troubled secondary academic journey characterized by being chased from class each time due to non payment of school fees.

After not performing well at school and having unpaid balances, Chanda abandoned sitting for his GCE examinations as he felt it would be a waste of time and resources despite being given an offer by his guardian.

Chanda na Kay’s decision to avoid alcohol and smoking stems from personal experiences and family struggles, ultimately helping them focus on their music careers and personal growth.
