LATE PRESIDENT MICHEAL SATA’S SON “GERALD SATA” AUDITIONED FOR THE ICON ZAMBIA S2 AND GOT THREE YESES

Just like every other contestant, Gerald Sata walked in to audition for the second season of The Icon Zambia at it’s first set of auditions that took place in early July 2025 at Happy Land, Lusaka Province.

Unbeknownst to the judges, the contestant who introduced himself as Gerald Starr, a singer and standing in front of them was late president Michael Chilufya Sata’s son.

That information would come to light after Judge David Kazadi asked what his full name was, to which he responded Gerald Sata, and the panel gave a shocked expression at the realization of who was in front of them.

Before the 26 year-old could sing a song his father loved as his birthday was up in six days, Kazadi cut in and said, “But hold on. Firstly, you’re the president’s son, yeah? Then you’ve come on The Icon to do a dedication song to the president because it’s his birthday. It’s a bit too much for us to take in, yeah? You’re putting a lot of pressure on us.”

He continued, “Gerald, for the sake… Like, for the sake of everything that’s on the table, I hope you can actually sing.”

Gerald responded in affirmation before proceeding to sing the song dedicated to his father.

Too short it was that they asked him to continue singing. He continued with a different song, and when he finished, the panel was quiet for a second before giving him a standing ovation.

“Shake things up. You have shook things up for Lusaka. Oh my goodness,” Judge Cleo Ice Queen reacted to the performance.

David Kazazi also reacted as he said, “I think you obviously were under a lot of pressure because if you flunked it, we were going to tell you you flunked it. We were obviously under a lot of pressure because we don’t even know how we were going to tell you you flunked it. Thank God you’re actually a good singer.”

He added, “And we couldn’t be more grateful that you chose to come on a programme like the Icon Zambia.”

When they went for a vote, Judge Ballard Zulu at the speed of lightening said yes! The two other judges also said yes, putting him through to the next round of the musical talent competition.
