Chester sees his biggest streaming release as ‘Eondongana Nankwe’ hits 4.3 million YouTube views in 3 months
The legendary artist's voice still influential twenty years later creating music
Chester’s recent release ‘Eondongana Nankwe’ has soared high on YouTube fuelled by the trend it ignited. The artist who has been making music for more than two decades has seen his song hit over 4.3 million YouTube views in a little more than three months, a milestone he could only admire from afar.
The title ‘Eondongana Nankwe’ which is a phrase referencing to a person who someone is sexually intimate with ( for example – that’s the person i ‘sleep’ with), has placed the artist on the charts again after several Zambians used the phrase in memes and posts, in turn making the song trend.
Chester who is affectionately know as ‘Chester Morepower’ lost his YouTube channel after it was hacked at a time he was reportedly about to release his album, showed resilience with his release of his album ‘I AM ON MY WAY’, from which the leading single Eondongana Nankwe is breaking records.
His growth after the album release was marvelous, as he accumulated close to two million views and twelve thousand subscribers on his new YouTube channel within a month of losing his channel that had over twenty million views.
The song has done fairly well for majority of Zambian artists, with it hitting over sixty one thousand (61,000) streams on Spotify. The artist’s album is currently sitting on one million, five hundred thousand (1,500,000) streams on Boomplay signifying the artist’s creativity, longevity, adaptability and diversity in a changing digital space compared to his peers.
His previous big release was on the smash hit ‘Ba Chabe Chabe’ featuring top Zambian artist Chile One and Lusaka rapper Dizmo which hit over two million YouTube views within a month of its release. It’s suffice to say the artist has had many hit records in his career which has propelled him to these successes.
Many of his followers and fans look on to see how far this song and the album will go in terms of revenue generation, accolades and popularity – hoping it wins a Kwacha Music Award in September, 2025. Furthermore they look forward to see what the has install for them in the near future.
