DIAMOND TV’S POTYAS WINNERS COULD WALK AWAY WITH OVER 40,000 KWACHA, BUT IT SHOULDN’T BE THE AWARDS’ MAIN FOCUS – CHIMWEKA
Diamond TV’s media promotions manager Chimweka Chileshe responded to a question by Zedify Online on whether the media’s Personality of the Year Awards come with a prize or not.
Mr. Chileshe told Zedify Online that the award winners receive monetary prizes, but the actual amount depends on several factors, including the popularity of the category a winner is in.
He emphasized that despite the prize money for the categories being different, every winner gets at least a minimum of 10,000 Kwacha.
“But what also happens is that sponsors of particular categories add to the 10 pin, allowing winners to walk away with an even bigger reward (20k, 25k, 30k, 40k, etc),” added Mr. Chimweka.
He further said that the prizes are never publicized because they shouldn’t be seen as the main focus of the awards, but he acknowledged that they are important.
“Let’s remember that some of the most prestigious awards in the world (like the Grammy’s) don’t even offer any cash prize at all,” he said.

Well, the question has been answered, the POTYAs winners receive monetary prizes, but the organisers do not want to make that the main focus of the event.
