“finshi namichita” – Drimz as he losses all 6 nomination in 5 days

Drimz, a renowned Zambian musician, had a rough night at the 2024 Kwacha Music Awards on November 2. Despite being nominated in six categories, he left empty-handed, and a second disappointment followed at the Diamond TV Personality of the Year Awards (POTYA), which took place on November 7th.

Drimz, who has a large fan following and had a big hit this year with his song “Single” featuring Jemax, took to social media to voice his displeasure and amazement at his unexpected losses.

Drimz was nominated in several top Kwacha Music Awards categories, including Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, Best Male Artist, and Best Mainstream/Pop song. These categories were intensely competitive, with some of Zambia’s top musicians and hit songs, including Yo Maps, Chef 187, and Chile One, were in contention. Drimz and Jemax’s collaboration “Single” has become a fan favourite, particularly on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, and is frequently heard on the streets, making it one of the year’s most popular songs. However, this success was insufficient to earn a victory.

His Kwacha Music Awards nominations included Best Collaboration, where “Single” competed with popular tunes such as “Don’t Go Away” by Mr. Crown featuring Yo Maps, “Nayo Nayo” by Chile One featuring Tianna, and “Ni Natural” by Macky 2 featuring Yo Maps.

In the Song of the Year category, “Single” competed with songs including “360” by Chef 187, “Ichibyongo” by JC Kalinks, and “So Chabe” by Chile One. His ambitions for Best Male Artist were shared with talented musicians such as Chef 187, Yo Maps, and Jemax, while Yo Maps and Chef 187 competed for Best Mainstream/Pop Song, among others.

In addition to this loss, Drimz attended the Diamond TV Personality of the Year Awards on November 7, where he was again unsuccessful. His irritation was clear when he posted on his Facebook page, asking his supporters, “Good evening, mwema beloved Ivorians, I am attending the Diamond TV Awards. Ati nakuno tachiweme. Bushe finshi namichita nemwaiche fye,” asking what he might have done to deserve such losses.

Drimz’s fans have been extremely supportive, rallying around him online and expressing their surprise that a song with 8.8 million YouTube views in nine months and popularity across numerous platforms could not win an award.

For an artist with steady releases and a big impact on Zambian music, his fans believed he deserved to be recognised, particularly in categories such as Song of the Year and Best Male Artist.

Drimz may not have won any accolades, but his reach and influence are unmistakable. His social media post generated debate among fans and industry professionals alike, highlighting the continued impact his music has on Zambian listeners.
