I WAS A BRICK LAYER AND HELPED OUT AT A GARAGE – CHANDA SPEAKS ON HIS LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL

One half of Chanda na Kay, Chanda opened up about his life after completing high school when he featured on Kenny T 1 ON 1 podcast hosted by Kenny T, revealing a tough tale of his life struggles.

“Nalipo na brick layer ine,” said Chanda when responding to Kenny T’s question. The rapper further added that his recruitment into being a brick layer came in after he decided to join a man who would usually ask his mates to accompany him to his construction works and later renumerating them.

The rapper would begin as an amateur following instructions to set up the conners and lay bricks following a string. The rapper would then channel some of his earnings from being a brick layer into making music.

Chanda told Kenny T that he comes from a family in which he was the only man hence he would sleep in the living room as they lived in a one bedroomed house prompting him to be waking up early before anyone else.

“Muntu kumona ati ah balabuka akachelo kanshi pakulala taukwete. Abuka akachelo, kumasanga 6 hours ali pamusebo, kanshi pakulala bakamba… ulingile bwangu bwangu waima abantu balefuma mung’anda, basanga naufuma,” Chanda told Kenny T.

As age caught on and a sense of independence kicked in, Chanda would start to only be seen at home during the day and helping out where it was required. As sleeping on the living room stopped being a favourable option for him, Chanda sorted refuge at his friends’ places.

The rapper continued as he opened up about his friend KSK, who helped him so much that he became like family. He added that their friendship was so great that his family would reprimand him if they quarreled.

The two would work together at a garage, looking after it, loading copper into trucks, and with his renumeration, he’d fix himself up and buy studio equipment.

When his colleagues took breaks from work, he would continue buying more studio equipment. It was during this time that Chanda met Kay and decided to form a musical duo and start working together.

Chanda is now a successful rapper through his duo Chanda na Kay, and his story is a testament to what resilience and determination can do, not letting one’s struggle determine their future.
