I WAS A GANG LEADER IN THE UK AND ALMOST GOT A 15-YEAR JAIL SENTENCE – DAVID KAZADI

POPULAR filmmaker David Kazadi, while featuring on Kenny T 1 ON 1 podcast, opened up about growing up in the United Kingdom – from a failed rap career, being a gang leader to studying medicine.

The filmmaker, who described himself as a “menace,” growing up, opened up about his failed rap career that his cardiologist father and lawyer mother did not like and tried to stop him from pursuing several times but to no avail.
He went on to reveal that in his adventures, he ended up joining one of the UK’s gangs, doing some “Chibolya gangs” kind of stuff, became its leader before committing a serious crime.
“So we did a mission, and it went completely wrong. And we left all kinds of fingerprints and all kinds of evidence lurking behind or lingering behind. And we got caught six months later,” Kazadi narated in part.
The filmmaker told Kenny T that after he was caught, he was interrogated by the British police and he was facing up to 15 years in jail.
Despite this being so disappointing, his parents loved him more, embraced him, and prayed for him. After that, his father, who is also a minister in church, told him that God had forgiven him and he was going to get a second chance.
16 year-old David Kazadi faced three Caucasian judges and thought they were going to send him straight to jail for 15 years because he was black.
To his shock, despite them being shocked that he was committing such crimes while being a law student, Kazadi was given a suspended 9 months sentenced with community service.
“There’s something about you that tells us that you’re going to be someone very important in life one day,” the judges told Kazadi before sentencing.
They further promised to clear his criminal record if he completed his community service.
The filmmaker did not reveal what crime he committed or what happened to his fellow gang members.
David Kazadi served his sentence, dropped out of law school one year and half into the program.
He then went to medical school and also dropped out before pursuing his true passion “filmmaking,” relocating to Zambia and making a name for himself in the entertainment spheres – a second chance well utilized.
