Drama, Fashion, and Glamour: The Copper-Inspired Lusaka July 2024 Takes Center Stage
On Sunday, September 29th, 2024, the Lusaka Polo Club was converted into a runway of high fashion and luxury for the 9th annual Lusaka July, hosted by PR Girl Media.

This year’s theme, “Stars in the Land of Copper,” honours Zambia’s role as a major copper producer by combining the country’s abundant resources with cutting-edge fashion.
The festival remains a premier social gathering for Zambia’s elite, including fashion shows, equestrian sports, and networking opportunities.
With single tickets costing a whopping 5,000 Zambian Kwacha, Lusaka July has once again established itself as the place to be for people at the top of the social ladder.
The fashion spectacular attracted both local and international attention, with high-profile visitors like Malawian artist Tay Grin, South Africa’s Real Housewives of Durban star Nonku Williams, and Luis Munana.

A Day of Performances and Glitz
The musical selection did not disappoint either. Local talents Chanda Na Kay electrified the crowd, while Roberto Zambia, the event’s MC, kept the energy up all day.
The combination of music and dress resulted in a dynamic, unique experience that had attendees talking long after the event concluded.
Among the celebrities, Zambian legends Mampi Queen Diva, entrepreneur Chanda Brian, and musician Cleo Ice Queen stole the show as the best dressed.
They embodied the “Stars in the Land of Copper” theme with elegance and inventiveness, receiving accolades on social media for their daring and spectacular wardrobe choices.

Controversy Strikes Again – Ben Lombe Banned from Lusaka July
While the event was glamorous, it wasn’t without controversy. Ben Lombe, a social media celebrity and hairstylist known for his provocative appearance and uncompromising self-expression, was barred from attending the event.
Lombe, dressed in lipstick and lashes and embodying a feminine identity, was denied entry at the gate, sparking debate in Zambian media.

Lombe’s removal from the event rekindled debates from prior years, when the festival was criticised for purportedly pushing ideas that contradicted traditional Zambian values.
This year, however, organisers made it clear: procedures had been strengthened to avoid similar conflicts. Lombe’s ban became the topic of the day, with many people questioning the balance between self-expression and traditional expectations.

Fashion Missteps – Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya Under Fire
Journalist Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya found himself in the middle of a different kind of controversy. Critics criticised his clothing, saying it did not fit the event’s copper theme.
Buyoya described his outfit as “uncle dressing,” which sparked further discussion regarding fashion expectations at Lusaka July and whether all participants were held to the same high standards.

A Shining Success Despite the Drama
Despite these tense times, the event was undeniably successful. Attendees commended PR Girl Media for upholding the elegance and dignity that Lusaka July has established since its start in 2016.

The event’s seamless blend of high-quality entertainment, fashion, and social connection keeps it at the top of Zambia’s cultural calendar.
In a year where the theme “Stars in the Land of Copper” celebrated Zambia’s natural abundance, Lusaka July 2024 did more than just showcase beautiful fashion, it stirred discussions about cultural identity, self-expression, and Zambia’s changing societal standards.
From the glitz and glamour to the media debates, Lusaka July once again demonstrated why it is Zambia’s top social event.
