MAMPI’S ‘UPEZEKO WINA’ HITS 310,000 YOUTUBE VIEWS IN 3 WEEKS
Mampi's release after 2 years absence not impressive compared to male peers

MAMPI’S ‘UPEZEKO WINA’ HITS 310,000 YOUTUBE VIEWS IN 3 WEEKS
When male Zambian artists are clocking million of views in a week’s time, Zambian female artist struggle to pull up such numbers with female artist’s regarded as the best in the country barely getting streams on digital platforms to generate enough encome to sustain their living standards.
In the week approaching Christmas, several Zambian artists released music with videos, the male artists to note Yo Maps and Chile One went ahead to achieve a million streams in less that a week meanwhile some notable female artists in the country, MAMPI and Towela also released.
The two female artists have managed to achieve only 300,000 and 139,000 for their singles ‘UPEZEKO WINA’ and ‘Sticky featuring JC Kalinks and Kayz Adams’ respectively, while on Spotify the artists has only achieved 5,200 and 1,900 streams respectively.
This is not a comparison but an observation in trends seen in the difference in streams between female and male Zambian artists. There are more consistent male artists than female. If it was to put top ten Zambian albums or songs in the past ten years no female artist would stand in terms of streams and revenue generated.
Is it that Zambian female artist are being sidelined or are not putting as much work as male artists do? It’s will be interesting to see them do more than one or two hit songs and remain consistent for a longer period.
Mampi’s last singles ‘Niba Star’ and ‘Featuring’ came out two years ago and in the period that followed the artist never released a single, Towela Kaira’s number are pretty impressive with two videos hitting over a million.
