MARKET YOUR SPOTIFY NOT BOOMPLAY IF YOU WANT TO WORK WITH INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS ROBERTO ADVISES ZAMBIAN ARTISTS

Zambian singer Roberto took to his social media to share an important message with his fellow peers. The singer stressed that Zambian artists need to promote their Spotify account rather than boomplay as international artists often check Spotify account to determine if they can work with an artist.
The singer in the heart felt message to his peers wrote, “Dear Zambian artists, globally, if you wish to work with an international artist, they are going to ask for your SPOTIFY profile (not Boomplay). The numbers on Spotify are very important in this industry.”
The singer is not just talking but leading by example. Roberto released his highly anticipated album, “Born To Win,” in 2024, and the album was made available on various digital streaming platforms, but boomplay. This cemented his stance on putting music on beneficial digital streaming platforms.
For so many years, the singer has always pushed his Spotify numbers and advocated for fellow artists to follow suit. The selfless artist further added in his heartfelt message as he said, “Take time to market your Spotify to your fans or followers. One day, it will work in your favor.”
Roberto stands as one of the most streamed artists on the platform, with his single Amarulah being the most streamed Zambian song on spotify with over 7.8 million streams. With his longevity in the industry, the singer is truly speaking from experience.
Over the recent years, Boomplay has been under artists’ scrutiny for poor pay in comparison to other DSPs with and producer KB advocating for fellow artists to relocate to Spotify – he also led by example by not putting his album with Chewe ‘Mixed Feelings’ on the platform. Apart from the pay, Roberto now adds another reason to choose Spotify over boomplay, which is visibility to international markets.
Nigerian and South African artists were paid over 59 United States Dollars million by spotify in 2024 with Nigerian artists earning 38 million USD while South African artists made 21 million USD reported Reuters.
Zambian artists have been bagging millions of streams on Boomplay with over 13 albums by Zambian artists hitting over 10 million streams on the platform. In comparison to Spotify on five albums hit a million streams last year. Many industry experts have said that if these numbers were to be on spotify, it would be significant growth for the industry, but are Zambian artists ready to abandon the platform?
