MPALI STAR WANGA ZULU HAS DIED 10 DAYS AFTER BEING HIT BY A STROKE WHILE FILMING

Actress Wanga Zulu, popularly known by her fans as Mai Guru, has passed away on October 9th, 2025 at around 23:00 hours, aged 51 years after suffering a stroke 10 days ago while on set filming.

Kasomo, representing NATAZ, described Wanga to Kalemba as a “mother figure” and was warm, and spiritual with a sense of a unit.
He further told the online news media that she suffered a partial stroke ten days ago while on set. She was then rushed to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital, where she was admitted to the high-cost section before being transferred to the intensive care unit(ICU) after the doctor’s advice.
The doctors described her condition as 50-50 in terms of survival. She remained in the intensive care unit until the time of her death.
In 2020, while featuring on Getting Candid with Hellen, Wanga revealed that she was diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer in 2014 at UTH’s Cancer Disease hospital.
She added, revealing that this diagnosis scared her because she didn’t know who would look after her two youngest children who were 7 and 10 years old at the time.
Mai Guru received radiotherapy, but due to machine breakdowns, she would would start receiving sporadically until the machine broke down completely. It was reported that year that she had recovered from the condition.
Wanga Zulu began her career as a teacher before pursuing acting full-time. She first featured in films such as Hopes & Dreams, Zedman, Mfuti, and Njira.
She skyrocketed into prominent fame with her role in the AMVCA award winning polygamy themed telenovela MPALI, where she played Amai Guru(Junza Nguzu), Mr Nguzu’s first wife.
Mwanga Zulu is survived by her husband Daniel Mutale and five children. She will be remembered as a jovial, humble, and helpful person who put smiles on thousands of faces with her amazing screen performances.
