MWIZUKANJI FEATURE FILM GETS NOMINATED FOR AFRICAN MAGIC VIEWER’S CHOICE AWARDS 2025
With the announcement of 2025’s African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards nominees, Zambia film entered celebratory mode as once again, the industry has representation at one of Africa’s biggest film stages with a Cosmas N’gandwe directed and produced movie ‘Mwizukanji’ and ‘Mam of Gold’ by Emmanuel Mwape.
The feature film, which features the real-life story of socialite and enterpreneur Mwizukanji’s struggles in life and relationships, notably with singer Yo Maps, has found itself on international stages despite unfavourable success locally.
The feature film is nominated in the category ‘Best Indigenous Language Southern Africa’ at this year’s African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards in Nigeria competing against Man of Gold a (Zambia), Lukas(Nambia), Walvis Tale(Nambia) and The Vow(Nigeria).
Mwizukanji was released in 2024. The movie, which had two sold-out screening, left people who watched it in awe and wishing for a second production. One of the people who watched it said the movie was above the rating that social media perceived it to be.
Uncle Limbani, a movie by Paul Mbulo Phiri, is a previous Zambian nominated movie in the category Best Indigenous Language Southern Africa. Zambia has won at least three times at the prestigious awards with Abraham Kabwe’s Dalitso being crowned Best Film Southern Africa in 2020. Macky 2’s King Buga and Frank Sibbuku’s MPALI winning Best Unscripted Original and Best Original Telenovela at the AMVCA 2023.
Mwizukanji feature film is now competing for the prestigious award. Wining the award will mean ending the two year drought, but can the feature film really pull this off? Mwizukanji is also competing with fellow Zambian film ‘Mam of Gold’ by Emmanuel Mwape.
The award show of the 2025 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) is going to take place on 10th May, 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria and promises to be a night filled with glamour, prestige and breathtaking entertainment as various profilic movie makers and actor will meet on one stage.
