No one million views for Chile One’s “Drop Em Down” in two months

Struggling to hit a million YouTube views - is sympathy driving Chile One's popularity?

Chile One rose to prominence over two years ago with his breakthrough single Fweba Ku Chaume, which featured prominent Zambian rapper Jemax. The song has since received over 9 million views on YouTube, solidifying his position in the Zambian music industry.

However, his most recent single, Drop Em Down, has not been as successful, failing to reach the desired one million views in its first two months, a milestone he accomplishes in weeks. It has only managed to get eight hundred and eighty thousand plus (880,000+) views.

Critics believe that Chile One’s appeal stems from sympathy, as he rose to prominence during a controversial interview with Edna on ZMB Talks in 2022. The interview, in which the artist was harshly criticised, garnered him attention.

Some believe his fans are streaming his music to keep him from slipping behind, particularly in comparison to Zambia’s top artist, Yo Maps.

It is noted with Africa’s biggest artist such as Diamond Platnamz, Davido and Kizz Daniel that some of their songs do not perform well in streams of music streaming platforms therefore this is not an entirely ellien citing.

The question now is, can Chile One bounce back and silence his critics with his next release? Time will tell.
