THINK AND TAKE YOUR TIME TO PRODUCE YOUR MUSIC – CHEF 187 ADVISES UP AND COMING ARTISTS

Rapper Chef 187 took a moment to share a piece of advice to up and coming, and established artists when he featured on Kenny T 1 ON 1 podcast’s episode 20 – the advice seemed to come from a place of experience.
Responding to Kenny T who asked the rapper to share a piece of advise to up and coming artists, the rapper started by giving one to his peers as he stressed that they should avoid financing a single project for example at 30,000 Kwacha only to promote it with a 5,000 Kwacha.
“Are you sure 5,000 Kwacha kuti yachita protect investment ya 25,000 Kwacha? So, there’s a problem even on the older side of artists,” said Chef 187.
The rapper then proceeded to advise to the up and coming artist, and said his advice depends on their end goal – whether its fame, passion, women or money that has made them decide to pursue music as a professional career.
“For example, if the biggest motivation is ka gelo kalya kakansumine nga song ya hiting’a, nga kakusumina nishi career yapwa kaili. But if it’s something that you are just passionate about, if you follow your passion, the business only comes along once you follow through with your passion,” said the rapper.
The rapper continued as he further revealed how his passion for writing has made his work easier.
He said, “I’ve never felt like I am working when I am writing. Yeah, there’s times when the process is harder, but eventually, it never feels like it’s work because I allow my passion to just lead, and I know what my objectives are.”
He continued, “So as an up and coming artist, kuti nalanda ati, first of all, kulanda ati okay, ine na music yandi ndefo kufika apa so. And then, when you start to get to that objective or goal, kulaba ati waipelako nayambi ma challenge, okay iyi twafika, iseni tufikeko napa futi again.”
Chef 187 also advised the up and coming artists to keep practising through their lyrics and become technical as it adds a different dimension to their art.
The further added that music is in the “microwave era” where it’s consumers are constantly seeking instant gratification, hence advising them to practice patience and urgency at the same time. To have patience to create their music but at the same time know that there are people waiting at the end.
The rapper ended by saying despite being in this era, the up and coming artist still have to take their time to make their music as once it’s released, they can’t retract it, therefore their kids or grandkids are one day going to listen and say this is our granddad or grandma who made this music.
“So, think about the music you are producing and take your time to produce it.” said Chef 187.
