WE WERE FUSTRATED, MORDECAII EXPLAINS ALBUM RELEASE DELAY AND LEAVING KAZADI MUSIC
I was managing myself, I wasn't feeling like my brand was growing and David Kazadi was busy with The Icon, he wasn't available when I needed help said the artist on ZMB Talks
“I am still happy with… there are a few things I am still happy with,” Mordecaii speaking to Edna of ZMB Talks about his relationship with David Kazadi and Kazadi Music. The artist who was scouted after his single FIRE’s TikTok snippet went viral stated that working with Kazadi Music taught him to be able to manage his music.
The artist in his praise of Kazadi Music said that he was growing his brand but Kazadi Music had great a team and had helped him skyrocket to fame in an instant because they had the tool to but after being with the record label for sometime he felt he wasn’t growing an observation he made due to his declining streaming numbers, from getting five million YouTube views to five hundred thousand YouTube views, the artist said, “I felt growth brand wise was not there.”
“In moments that I needed things done from the label side, no one was available,” the artist when talking about the impact of the Icon on his career. He further started that he started doing things on his own which included organising and paying studio time(with Melarbeats) something he says he always notified the record label and was a rebellion for being neglected, “I was in a position where if I dont do it, nobody will,” said the singer.
The singer said the Icon Zambia had made Kazadi busy that he asked him to manage him self, “he was frustrated, I was frustrated,” he said. “Why I left is because I realized if put my mind to it, I could actually manage myself.”
In explaining the delay in his album release, the artist said the delay was due to Kazadi Music not paying for mastering of the songs, a fee he ended up paying. He further mentioned that the next postponement was due to contractual disagreements which Kazadi Music needed a new contract to clearly state royalty sharing. When it was scheduled to drop on January 3 2025, Dandy Krazy passed and they had to postpone hence its release on 17th January, 2025.
When asked if he would have achieved what he had after releasing his breakthrough single ‘FIRE’ without Kazadi Music, the singer responded, “I think I would have blown, but maybe not just as fast because the record label and Mr Kazadi had the tools to get me there like this(snaps finger), the radio station and access they have, he had the platform, I was building that platform from scratch.”
In dealing with shots at Kazadi Music for not giving him a car like they did with The Icon winner Emmanuel Muleba, the singer said that wasn’t part of the deal, his was to record music and Kazadi Music would market it.
