YO MAPS EYES BET AWARD IN 2026 AFTER AFRIMA AWARD WIN

Responding to UTENGA Media journalist’s question on how winning an AFRIMA award made him feel, YO MAPS expressed great happiness for his achievement and confidence that more Zambian artists will be able to win such prestigious awards in the future.

When concluding his feelings on win, YO MAPS also expressed his desire to win a BET award in 2026.

“I’m more than happy, I’m excited, you know? Maybe this year, tifunika ko BET award,” he said.

Black Entertainment Television(BET) Awards are an American awards show meant to celebrate black excellence, and they are rumoured to return this year at Peacock Theatre on June 14, 2026.

Yo Maps winning a BET award would not only be a significant personal achievement but also a monumental moment for Zambian music, paving the way for greater global visibility and attracting international collaborations and investments.

■ The singer won Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa this past weekend at the All Africa Music Awards(AFRIMA) ceremony held in Lagos, Nigeria defeating heavyweights such as South Africa’s Nasty C, Tyler ICU, Kabza De Small, Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah among others.

The singer’s BET Award aspiration highlights his bold ambition to elevate Zambian music onto the world stage, moving beyond regional success to compete with global heavyweights.
