ZAMBIAN ARTISTS VOICE OUT AGAINST CHILD DEFILEMENT THROUGH PROTESTS

Several Zambian artists have taken to the streets on a fight against child defilement. With their arms up, most of them raised placards with one message, “Stop child defilement,” whilst others wore t-shirts printed with the same message.

Today, a second protest took place after the Friday, 4th April match from Zesco flyover bridge to Cabinet Offices. The artists stripped their status, and driven by a similar cause they ganged up to influence the government and policy maker to put in place strict laws and punishment against extremely thirst adults who abuse children – calling for no bail and stiffer punishments.

The protest are fueled by the increase in number of children being defiled by their fathers, neighbours and community members who are the same people responsible protecting them. Blood boiled as several reports suggested that some relatives were trying to cover up for offenders by bribing the police.

The protests yielded some positive results so far with the minister of justice Princess Kasume saying the government is planning to introduce stricter penalties to curb the use of sex boosters and misinformation by traditional healers as they contribute to rise in child defilement cases.

In 2024 – police recorded over 2,000 defilement cases with about 401 recorded in Easten province alone. “What’s the point of justice if it’s weak? It’s time for stronger consequences,” said rapper Macky 2, a common goal protesters share.
