ELISHA LONG SLAMS “DISRESPECT” TOWARD XYZ ENTERTAINMENT AMID PMC’S MONDO MUSIC PRAISE

ELISHA LONG says SLAPDEE’s owned record label XYZ Entertainment is the most successful in Zambia’s history and people have been trying to bury its legacy after PMC praised Mondo Music label’s work ethic and said the industry needs to learn from them.

“Is it because most artists aren’t too vocal about the label’s achievements, or because we don’t act upon some of the disrespect being directed at its artists?” Elisha Long wondered.
Despite the TV/radio presenter’s comments not touching on success or saying anything related to XYZ, the singer felt the need to say that and to explain how the label’s proprietors, being artists, managed to pave the way for a lot of producers, rappers, and singers.
“It starts with many of you understanding what it takes to run a record label… XYZ is the most successful record label in the history of this nation,” he added.
The Mondo Music label was founded in 1999 and completely revitalized Zambian music by investing in heavy production and modern studios, further increasing airplay and mainstream acceptance in clubs with artists such as JK, K’Millian, Lily T, Daddy Zemus, and Black Muntu, among others.
Elisha Long’s take is misplaced, the debate on which record label is the best seems somewhat irrelevant as each one of them had their time and what they did for the music industry, unless parameters are set to determine which one is, like PMC did with “work ethic.”
Nevertheless, PMC raises an important insight: Do record labels in Zambia need to learn from Mondo Music Label’s work ethic?
