CHOOSING WHOM TO VOTE FOR IS A PERSONAL DECISION – CHEF 187 ON NOT DOING CAMPAIGN SONGS

CHEF 187 said the reason why he has not done a campaign song for a political party or presidential candidate is that it should not be up to him as an artist to tell people who to vote for.

■ “Kuli ine it’s a big deal telling someone who to vote for because whoever you vote for, it’ll affect you in one way or the other. Even people that don’t vote, filaba chita affect, what more nomba ngawaeba muntu ati vote for candidate A or B?” the rapper told Kenny T in June 2025.
Chef 187 acknowledged that his music transcends political lines and his duty is to sensitize his followers and not tell them who to vote for, as that is a personal decision.
However, the rapper said he recorded a political song for a certain presidential candidate and party in 2016 on his own, but kept it to himself for “his own enjoyment”; when that political party contacted him for his services, he turned it down.
When asked about the huge financial offers that come from doing campaign songs, the rapper responded, “They say not all money is good money.”
The rapper added that they have had tough discussions with his team over such offers, but his decision to turn them down aligns with the person he is and the brand he has created over the years.
Nevertheless, Chef 187 said maybe in the future he might change his mind, as he looks at things from many different perspectives and the position he’s at in life.
