T LOW SAYS ZAMBIAN AWARDS ARE A POPULARITY CONTEST AS HE STRESSES COMMITTEE CHANGES

T-LOW says artists with more followers win Zambian awards even if they did not do much that particular award year; therefore, awards are given to people who don’t deserve them.

“I just feel like the issue of voting doesn’t really add up. Ba Kenny, if you’ve got 1 million followers and I am a better artist than you in terms of the music and all the things, and I’ve got 10,000 followers, who do you think will have more votes when it comes to voting?” T-Low asked his host.

“It means the people who will always win are the people with the biggest fan base; even if they did not do that much that year, they’ll still win because the majority of the percentage is who is voting,” added the singer.

Furthermore, T-Low added that he’s not really inclined towards awards despite winning Best RnB Song for “Because of You featuring Mumba Yachi” in 2018 and Best Copperbelt Artist at the Kwacha Music Awards because of the disorganization of the committees.

“I feel like the spaces of people that run these things need to have the merit to firstly categorize music properly, and have people that really listen to Zambian music because it doesn’t really make sense to me that you have a committee or a board of people that don’t even know the artists that are in the categories,” he stressed.

The question on whether Zambian music awards are a popularity contents remains up for debate but the singer has raised sentiments that have been shared by several artists and industry players for several years now.
